What do we do at Alternatives?
We provide health education and support for prevention and reversal of disease processes with nutrition and natural remedies.
Dr. Ryan asks you to fill out a very detailed form that provides her with information about your past medical history, your environmental exposures, your current family situation, and your current symptoms. She evaluates you in depth looking for causes of your current situation or dysfunction in you body. She then recommends appropriate laboratory testing to confirm your body's chemistry and see what nutrients or remedies you could benefit from, as well as what hormones or medications you may need. She then recommends specific dietary changes, supplements, or prescriptons that are appropriate for your condition.
Does Dr. Ryan prescribe medications?
She routinely prescribes thyroid, estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone (bio-identical hormones) for those that need it. She occassionally prescribes other medications, but because Dr. Ryan no longer is a primary care doctor, she will refer you to your doctor if other prescriptions are needed.
Is Dr. Ryan a real doctor?
Yes, she obtained her M.D. degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She is Board Certified in Family Practice. She also has a degree in Nutrition. Her focus is on prevention and disease reversal using natural remedies.
What is Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy?
A bio-identical hormone is a hormone which has the exact same chemical structure as the hormone your body makes. It is made from soy or wild yam because the only place a truly bio-identical hormone occurs is in the body. Most other hormones prescribed are synthetic and have a significantly different chemical structure from our own hormones. Therefore these synthetic hormones have more side effects.
For post-menopausal hormone replacement, our goal is to give you enough estrogen so that you have relief of menopause symptoms. We balance the estrogen with progesterone, and see if you need other hormones such as DHEA or testosterone.
How much does it cost?
Dr. Ryan charges only for the time you spend with her. The initial visit is recommended to be 90 minutes. Costs are:
- 90 minute visit: $400
- 60 minute visit: $300
- 30 minute visit: $175
What should I bring on my first visit?
Please print out this New Patient Medical History form, complete to the best of your ability, and bring with you on your first appointment.
Does insurance cover my visit?
Dr. Ryan does not participate with Medicare or Medicaid and she is not under contract with any insurance companies. The insurance contract is between you and your insurance company. This allows for care to be based on only what you need. There is some reimbursement by your insurance company to you. Some of the visits with Dr. Ryan will be reimbursed as well as some of the lab tests. We will provide you with an itemized statement which you can use to fill out your insurance company claim form.
Do you offer any financing options?
Flexable payment plans are available through Care Credit. Minimum requirements are at least $1000 in treatment costs, and plans range from short-term no-interest to long-term fixed rates. Contact Alternatives for more information, or visit http://www.carecredit.com to apply online.
